Produced in Portalegre to the north east of the Alentejo on the granite foothills of the São Mamede mountains, where cooler temperatures, along with many old vines, gives complexity and freshness.

"Very deep garnet. Sweetness and complexity and the anticipation of a very big wine. Slightly charry and leathery on the nose. More earthy than the 6048 and more mature in aroma. Damson and other black fruits, plenty of sweet spice and some dried fruits – figs. Massive presence in the mouth without being heavy but it is alcoholic. With this amount of alcohol, it benefits from being drunk slightly cooler than room temperature. Thick, chewy tannins that still need time. I don't quite understand these multi-vintage limited edition wines – not sure of their purpose. They are certainly complex and rich but not easy to drink as table wines. Impressive rather than delicious. Unexpectedly fresh on the finish. A nod to Mouchão in style even if made very differently?" Julia Harding for Jancis Robinson, 17 points
