Beautiful topaz colour with complex volatile aromas of dried fruits, spices and nuts. The palate is elegant and intensely flavoured, with a long and persistent finish enhanced by lively acidity.
"And now for something completely different! Bottled August 2023 in 500 ml bottle. From the folks who brought this “Howard’s Folly” adventure with one of Portugal’s old oxidative dessert wine styles and the “namesake” and business visionary, Howard Bilton, and his winemaking associate, David Baverstock (legendary winemaker and former Portmaker in Portugal, Carcavelos is the smallest wine region in Portugal and production is miniscule. However, it has long been one of the great ones, It is fortified with aguardente and aged in 700 liter oak casks and not topped off, which enhances the oxidate character. Sensational scents of exotic Indian spices, mahogany, cinnamon, maple and light hints of VA. Weeks later I noted some green tea and pipe tobacco notes as well. Smooth and lithe. Loads of tangy tropical flavors, with lots of honey and baking spice, also grilled pineapple and ripe honeydew melon and a touch of caramelized sugar. Not too sweet and I appreciated the sheer intensity of the acidity of this wine, The balance is a significant strong point. The length and its complexity is the other." Roy Hersch, 95 points
