Produced in Portalegre to the north east of the Alentejo on the granite foothills of the São Mamede mountains, where cooler temperatures, along with many old vines, gives complexity and freshness.
"Deep cherry red. Inviting aroma of both dark and spicy red fruits, peppery too, deeply aromatic, especially on the day after opening so may be worth decanting. With a rich yet somehow stony character that I associate with granite sites. Pure-fruited, generous, with a touch of dark chocolate on the fresh, dry, chalky finish. Elegant and generous at the same time. Lovely texture – the tannins still have some grip but they are really fine and add freshness." Julia Harding for Jancis Robinson, 16.5 points.
